What Does a Life Coach Do?

Consider a Life coach as your personal champion and guide on the journey of self-discovery and personal growth. A coach will assist you in clarifying your goals, overcoming obstacles, and designing a path to success. A coach is skilled in fostering positive change, accountability, and empowerment in their clients.

Life coaches offer profound insights into life and human behavior, provide valuable assistance and unwavering support, and share wisdom, often using techniques such as metaphors to challenge and transform beliefs.

"Coaching is partnering with individuals in a thought-provoking, creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

All About Coaching

Techniques Used in Coaching

In my coaching practice, I utilize a range of techniques, including goal setting, active listening, powerful questioning, visualization, and action planning. I also incorporate Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a powerful tool for personal transformation that helps reprogram thought patterns and beliefs for positive change. The focus is on helping you identify and achieve your goals while facilitating personal transformation and growth.

Differences Between Coaching and Therapy

Life coaching differs from  therapy in several ways. While therapy typically addresses past issues, coaching is forward-looking and action-oriented. Coaching is not intended to diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Coaching is designed to help you maximize your potential, initiate or continue self discovery and reflection and help you achieve your personal and professional goals, all while incorporating a healing dimension. Therapy and coaching can be complementary, working hand in hand to create a holistic approach to personal development.

Trauma-Informed Coaching

Trauma-informed coaching recognizes the impact of trauma on an individual’s life and uses techniques that prioritize safety, trust, and collaboration. This approach acknowledges the potential trauma history of clients and ensures that coaching sessions are conducted in a sensitive and healing-focused manner.

As someone who has personally navigated the journey of healing from trauma and transforming my own life, I bring a deep understanding of the importance of trauma-informed coaching. My experience allows me to provide a unique level of empathy and support, ensuring that coaching sessions are not only safe and collaborative but also genuinely healing-focused.

History of Coaching

The history of the word “coach” goes back to the 15th Century to the village of Kocs (pronounced “koach”) in Budapest, which transformed the transport industry in making a new, lighter and more rapid type of carriage.

The village of Kocs ended up being associated with travelling from one place to another in a rapid and efficient way. And thus, “coaching” is born.

Originally used in sports and performance contexts, coaching has evolved into a powerful tool for personal development and empowerment.

You wouldn’t hesitate to hire a personal trainer to help you with your fitness goals. Similarly, why not consider hiring a coach to guide you in achieving your life goals? Just as a personal trainer helps you improve your physical well-being, a life coach is dedicated to enhancing your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Coaching is a collaboration

A successful coaching relationship is built on a foundation of trust, collaboration, and mutual respect. Your coach should serve as your trusted partner and guide, supporting you in clarifying your goals, overcoming obstacles, and designing a path to success. When selecting a coach, it’s crucial to find someone with whom you feel you can truly be yourself. Seek a coach who not only understands your unique challenges and aspirations but also embodies qualities such as empathy, authenticity, and expertise in their field, along with relevant qualifications. Being able to openly communicate and connect with your coach is paramount. You should feel a sense of trust and rapport, knowing that your coach creates a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your goals and challenges.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is of utmost importance in our coaching relationship. As your coach, I am committed to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and privacy regarding all information shared during our sessions. Your personal and professional matters will be treated with the utmost respect and discretion. Rest assured that any discussions, documents, or materials exchanged between us will remain strictly confidential.
